My experience with ‘non-stick’ pans is that about 75% of them are not actually non-stick. Even if I douse them with oil when cooking and wash them up thoroughly after use, they still seem to end up scratched, blackened and bumpy after a while. When you try to make a pancake and end up with it covered in black bits from the bottom of the pan, you know it’s time to invest in some new cookware.

In the past my pans have all comes from the bargain aisles of TK Maxx and Dunelm, which may go some way to experience how distinctly average they’ve generally been. So last time I was in the market for pans, I decided to invest , and buy into the cult favourite brand of Our Place.

The Our Place pans look good; but they are not just style over substance.

I first heard about Our Place via Selena Gomez, who previously launched a range of pans with the brand. She’s not my normal go-to for kitchenware endorsements (that’s my mum), but then I started to read increasing numbers glowing reviews of the cult pan brand online. People were extravagant in their praise.

The key product is the ‘Always Pan’, which has the big claim of being super-multifunctional (the latest version promises 10 functions in one pan). It’s crafted from recycled aluminium, oven safe up to 230C and has a non-toxic nonstick coating. This last point, for me, is the key selling point. It is impressively non-stick – everything just glides around on there like kids on a slip-and-slide – and washing it up is ridiculously easy. They stay looking pristine for ages.

You’s fashion director Sophie Dearden-Howell has also shared her love of Our Place pans on Instagram.

The range – all available in Instagram-friendly finishes and colours – includes other multi-purpose cookware, from the ‘Perfect Pot’ (‘boil, bake, fry, roast, braise, strain, serve, and store’) to an aesthetically-pleasing five-piece bakeware set. The good thing about it all looking so nice is you can leave it in your kitchen and not look slovenly; it’s a display, not laziness! You can also use any of them as a serving receptacle when hosting and get lots of impressed noises (which is not true of a rusty old pan).

Black Friday represents Our Place’s biggest sale of the year, so it’s the time to invest if you’ve been considering a new pan purchase. If in doubt I’d say start with the Always Pan first, although the bundle sets offer really good value.
