Elaine Hendrix was taken to the hospital in the middle of her Dancing with the Stars rehearsal.
On Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the start of the Halloween Night episode, hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough announced that the Parent Trap star would not be performing this week.
After Andy Richter, Jordan Chiles and Whitney Leavitt performed, the broadcast turned to Elaine‘s partner, Alan Bersten, who explained that the actress was transported to the hospital for an evaluation after she suffered pain in her ribs.
Elaine and Alan were initially set to perform an Argentine Tango to “Bad to the Bone” by 2WEI and Bri Bryant. During their opening package, Elaine said in her rehearsal confessional that she is “feeling bad to the bone.”
As the pair practiced in the DWTS studios, she acknowledged that she’s still injured, saying, “I’m making sure that I’m not doing anything really damaging to myself.” Alan checked in on her and how she was feeling and offered to change the choreography, but Elaine was persistent and wanted to keep trying.

The package then cut to Alan sharing what happened during their show-day rehearsal. “Elaine and I were dancing, and all of a sudden, Elaine kind of froze and said she can’t move and she can’t breathe, and something happened with her rib,” he said. The clip shows Elaine telling Alan and the DWTS crew that her muscle was “twisted” under her ribs.
“She’s in so much pain that I don’t know if we’re gonna dance tonight,” Alan said during the rehearsal footage. “It’s just a lot of unknowns right now. I just hope this isn’t the end of Elaine’s dream to dance again.”
Host Alfonso then shared with the audience that the doctors have cleared Elaine to stay in the competition if she doesn’t get eliminated. In order to keep her in the competition, DWTS aired Elaine and Alan’s last full rehearsal.
Similar to any other performance, Alan stood across from the judges’ panel and took in their feedback before they scored the rehearsal clip.
“It’s really hard, because we have to judge that,” Derek Hough began. “But I know Elaine, tonight, she would have gone up 10 years. She is a born performer. With that said, even in that rehearsal, still so, so impressive. Unfortunately, we have to judge that particular video. But still, we love you, Elaine.”
Guest judge Cheryl Burke added, “I’m a fan. I’m a huge fan of Elaine. I feel like in previous weeks you guys have been underrated a little bit. Your partnership is beautiful to watch. As far as moving forward, which I’m happy to hear that she can, it’s important to work on the transitions right. That’s even more important than the tricks themselves. But great work”
Bruno Tonioli first began his critique by applauding Alan for his choreography, saying, “Alan. You did a great job. I’m telling you the content, the lines, the placement, the effects you made with the choreography,” he said. “You know, I adore you because you are a true performer. This one, as Derek said, adds to it the layer of sultriness and passion that you can put in. It would have been sensational.”
Carrie Ann Inaba then confessed she’s “heartbroken” to hear that Elaine wasn’t able to perform. “After last week’s success, that momentum just would have taken her to another level.”
“Already, I was like, ‘Damn, the girl watching that rehearsal that is amazing,'” she said. “She was looking hot and sexy, and the chemistry was so real and passionate, and she’s so strong, and she’s such a warrior. She’s gotta come back.”

Before Elaine’s performance aired, she shared an Instagram video explaining that fans will still need to vote for her to keep her in the competition.
“I’m devastated. 💔. I was beyond excited to share what we had worked so hard on, although you’ll see a version of it. With your support, I’ll be back in the ballroom next week. I want nothing more,” her caption read. “I’m sending all my love to Alan and the entire Dancing with the Stars team — (including @lisaannwalter. of course, she’s with me).”
She concluded: “Thank you all for your love, your support, and your votes. I couldn’t do this without you. 🫶🏼🎃 #DWTS #TeamPartnerTrap.”
