University Of Staffordshire Proposes To Cut Nearly 70 Jobs

uaetodaynews.com — University of Staffordshire proposes to cut nearly 70 jobs

A university has confirmed plans to cut nearly 70 jobs as it battles financial pressures.

The University of Staffordshire said it was proposing to cut 31.2 academic and 35.5 professional service full-time equivalent (FTE) roles – a total of 66.7.

A spokesperson said it was part of a drive to make “pay savings” of about £6.4m, with the reductions made through staff cuts, not replacing vacant roles and reducing some casual contracts.

“Like many universities, we are facing financial pressures due to the challenging higher education environment,” they said.

A full consultation process began on 9 October, the spokesperson added, and 95% of the 1,248 staff members would be unaffected.

They said: “Throughout this period, the student experience will remain paramount, and we are committed to full consultation with our recognised trade unions and to providing support to colleagues affected.”

It is the third consecutive year the university has announced job cuts, having confirmed a reduction of 40 roles in October 2024 and 100 in November 2023.
