This victory is the first medal for the Russian national team in artistic gymnastics since 2021, the year that saw Melnikova win the previous world championship gold in the same competition.
Melnikova is 25 years old and is an Olympic champion in the team competitions at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. She also has an Olympic silver medal in the teams, two bronze medals in the individual competitions, in addition to four European gold medals to her credit.
The World Championship competitions will be held in Jakarta between October 19 and 25, with the participation of Russian athletes under a neutral flag, after their gradual return to international championships following the suspension period imposed in 2022.
