Liverpool Regains The Winning Tone With A Brace Against West Ham (video)

Swede Alexander Isak opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 60th minute, before his Dutch teammate Cody Jacobo added the second goal in the second minute of stoppage time for the second half, taking advantage of the numerical shortage among West Ham, which was forced to play with ten players, after its Brazilian player Lucas Paqueta was sent off in the 84th minute, for receiving a second warning.

Liverpool’s score, which achieved its seventh victory in the tournament this season against 6 defeats, rose to 21 points in eighth place, while West Ham’s score stopped at 11 points in seventeenth place (fourth from the bottom).

Liverpool coach Arne Slot decided to exclude Egyptian international star Mohamed Salah, the team’s top scorer, from the visitors’ starting lineup in a surprising move by the Dutch coach.

Perhaps Slot’s decision came in response to the demands of many followers, to exclude the captain of the Pharaohs team, who led Liverpool to win the English Premier League title last season, which saw him being crowned with the awards for best scorer and best playmaker in the prestigious competition, after his level declined this season.

Slot relied on Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Cody Jacobo in the attacking line in the match that was held at the London Olympic Stadium, before introducing Frenchman Hugo Ekitiki to replace Isak in the second half, while Salah remained on the bench.

Liverpool, which lost to Manchester City and Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League and to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, entered the match after suffering 9 defeats in its last 12 matches in various competitions, noting that it had suffered 7 defeats during its last six matches in the English Premier League.

Salah’s decline was a feature of that series, as he failed to score in the last four matches, noting that he scored only 4 goals in the league throughout the season.
