In a stunning shake up of the theme park world, Universal’s most recent attraction – Epic Universe theme park – has stormed the prestigious annual Thea awards.
In a seemingly unprecedented twist, it left Disney in its wake after ousting it from the coveted top spot.
Epic Universe has been in high demand with fans swarming the gates ever since it launched in May this year.
It has since been the recipient of gushing praise from theme park fanatics for its cinematic scale environments, next generation ride technology and meticulous storytelling.
The park features five immersive worlds including the wizarding world of Harry PotterHow to Train Your Dragon’s Isle of Berk, Super Nintendo World, the Dark Universe and Celestial Park.
Its popularity was officially recognized on Tuesday evening when Epic Universe clinched a number of top spots at the Thea awards.
Established by TEA (Themed Entertainment Association) in 1944, the Thea Awards celebrate both professionals and organizations whose work brings to life outstanding achievements, fiercely bold innovation, and the world’s most immersive experiences.
Universal’s latest park walked away with a staggering total of four accolades including receiving honors for outstanding achievement in the Thea Awards theme-park category.

Epic’s Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment was recognized in the attraction category and its immersive Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry was celebrated as an outstanding ride experience.
In addition, Dale Mason, retired vice president and executive art director at Universal Destinations and Experiences, was the recipient for the esteemed Buzz Prize Award, which TEA awards for ‘a lifetime of distinguished achievements.’
The winners were shared live from Universal Epic Universe with the announcement officially launching the months-long celebratory campaign that will culminate next May during the annual TEA INSPIRE program and 32nd Annual Thea Awards Gala.
‘Tonight’s announcement is just the beginning for the Thea Award winners and our global members,’ declared Melissa Oviedo, CEO of Themed Entertainment Association.
The win marks one of Universal’s most dominant performance in years.
Disney – long considered the untouchable titan of theme parks – was notably absent from categories it has historically ruled in what is being perceived as a seismic snub.
Instead, it won just a singular honor for the themed food and beverage experience at the Haunted Mansion Parlor aboard the cruise liner Disney Treasure.
This marks the first time in ten years that another central Florida park has dominated the ceremony.

Orlando’s bold risk taking strategy seems to be paying off as individuals speculate over the results, wondering if we could be witnessing Disney’s decline.
Disney revealed in its latest earnings report that revenue at its US theme parks increased by six percent year over year during the third quarter of this year.
However, the company confirmed that attendance at these locations has dropped compared to the same quarter last year, according to a recent report from DisneyFanatic.
This week Disney’s stock price has been plummeting, declining by 7.7 percent over the course of just one day.
