  • The news comes after a permit was reportedly filed for 150,000 square feet of space to be added to Epic Universe
  • Universal Destinations & Experiences CEO Mark Woodbury previously teased a possible expansion at the park back in September

Nearly six months after Universal’s Epic Universe opened to the public, the park is already preparing for new additions.

Alyson Sologaistoa, Vice President of Public Relations at Universal Orlando Resort, confirmed to PEOPLE in a statement that some new updates are coming to the Orlando, Fla. park, and Epic Universe fans can look forward to the details being shared soon.

“We are preparing for some exciting additions to Epic Universe in the future,” Sologaistoa said. “Details about specific developments will be shared in due time.”

The news comes after a permit was reportedly filed in Orange County, Fla. for 150,000 square feet of space at the same address as Epic Universe on Nov. 7, according to local outlets WESH 2 and Florida Today. While it’s unclear what the permit is for exactly, the description is reportedly listed as “site utilities and foundation work.”

In September, Universal Destinations & Experiences CEO Mark Woodbury teased a possible expansion at the park during a conversation with Bank of America Securities analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich, PEOPLE previously reported.

“If you fly over Epic (Universe) or you look at Google Earth, you’ll see how we planned the park, and you’ll see greenfield space between the existing worlds,” Woddbury explained at the time. “That is strategically positioned to give us flexibility to expand the world or create a new world, and so that’s how we look at it.”

He added that while there weren’t any specific updates to share at that time, he noted, “I can tell you that there are multiple attractions in the works, not just at Epic… We have a pretty sophisticated and well thought-through, long-range plan that takes us out another decade in terms of product offerings, not just in Orlando, but around the world.”

Woodbury was seemingly referring to the first-ever Universal theme park and resort coming to the U.K.which was officially announced in April.

He also addressed fan speculation regarding a popular franchise getting a permanent residency at Universal parks: “I think I might have stirred that pot when I saw theWickedsets and said it was a ‘theme park waiting to happen,’” he said, referencing an interview he did with theNew York Timesin February.
