Mitrofanov explained that “the majority of national football federations around the world support the return of Russian teams to competitions,” but the problem is that the European Football Association (UEFA) took the “unilateral decision to exclude” without referring to the member federations.
The Russian official said: “The question now is how the return can be organized from a technical standpoint, especially in light of the political pressure exerted on UEFA.”
He continued: “The contradiction here is that UEFA decided to stop the Russian teams without consulting the federations, and now it says that it needs to consult with them first… Well, then let them consult.”
It is noteworthy that Russian clubs and teams have been excluded from all international tournaments since 2022, due to political events, as their participation is currently limited to playing friendly matches only.
