According to BBC Sport’s Adam Pope, the Tunisian player allegedly spat on a Leeds fan, with Pope later reporting that the FA was “reviewing the incident”.

Lancashire Police are now working to “establish the facts” about the complaint, as reported by The Athletic.

In this context, former English Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg believes that if it is proven that Al-Mejbri spat intentionally, he may face a ban for at least three matches.

“The FA will interview players and fans and study available video footage before making any charges,” Clattenburg told Leeds News.

He concluded: “If the accusation is brought, Hannibal may be subject to a suspension, which will be determined by the English Football Association, and I believe it will extend for at least 3 matches.”

According to the rules of the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which are applied by the English Football Association, spitting on an opponent or any other person is classified as violent behavior.

While the British police consider that “intentional spitting on someone constitutes an assault crime.” However, if it is unintentional, it is not usually considered a crime.
