Disney World Swiftly Backtracks On New Pre-paid Meal Plans After Facing Immense Backlash

Disney World has backtracked after facing immense backlash over its new dining plan.

The theme park, located in Orlando, Floridaoffers packages to guests staying at its hotels which allows them to prepay meals and snacks called the Disney Dining Plan.

How it works is you pay in advance and get ‘credits’ that you can use to order food and drinks while you’re at the park.

While it doesn’t usually save you money – many Disney guests have calculated how much they spent on food during their trip, compared it to the price of Disney’s Dining Plan and found it was roughly the same or even cheaper – it’s all about convenience.

It can add immense ease to families visiting the park and for that reason, it is extremely popular.

However, many Disney fans were left outraged after the Most Wonderful Place on Earth made a huge change to the program for 2026.

Last month, it announced the dining locations in Disney World that would be participating in the Disney Dining Plan this year – and many people were quick to notice that a slew of their favorite eateries were not included.

That means guests who forked over hundreds of dollars on the program couldn’t use their credits at beloved food spots, and they were not happy about it.

Hoards of Disney fans took to social media to share their outrage, with one writing: ‘This is a big loss.’

‘This kind of butchers the value of the Dining Plan,’ scathed someone else.

According to Inside the Magica whopping 35 restaurants around the theme park were not included in the original 2026 plan.

But now, Disney has quietly re-added than 20 of those dining locations to the package, including fan favorites Yak & Yeti Restaurant and Rainforest Cafe at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

In addition, Disney re-instated the four Starbucks throughout the parks to its dining plan, much to the relief of its dedicated guests.

There are two different Disney Dining Plans offered to guests. The first one includes two quick-service meals and one snack or nonalcoholic drink per person in your party every night of your stay, plus one resort-refillable drink mug per person in your party.

The second one offers all that plus one table-service meal per person per night of stay.

The price depends on your party size and length-of-stay, but starts at $60 per night for adults.

Guests staying at one of Disney World’s resort hotels get a free Disney Dining Plan for kids age three to nine when purchasing it for other members of their party.

‘Dining plans can add the convenience and flexibility of prepaid meals and snacks to your vacation – and give you peace of mind,’ reads Disney’s website.

‘For families on the go all day, this is a fast and easy meal plan option – especially when you have little ones in tow.’

Disney fans have long debated whether or not the program is worth it.

‘Unless you always order the most expensive thing on the menu and never miss a meal, it’s not really worth it,’ one person claimed on Reddit.

‘Plenty of people have to use up credits the last day by getting a bunch of snacks to bring home.’

‘It’s never been worth it for me unless I got it for “free” as part of a package. I’ve always thought of it as a way to make a trip “all-inclusive,” not necessarily save money,’ shared another. ‘In many cases people will save money NOT using the dining plan.’

‘The general consensus is that the Disney Dining Plan is way food than most people need or want so you can save money by just buying less,’ someone else agreed.

‘We have used the dining plan twice, and neither time felt like it was worth it. I find myself stressing about making sure we’re using points effectively, and we never end up feeling like we’ve gotten our money’s worth,’ read a fourth post.

A fifth said: ‘You can MAKE it worth it, but a lot of people don’t. Me though I make sure I am using EVERY meal credit and to it’s maximum potential.’
