Sadio Manes Fingerprint Saves Senegal From Losing To The Democratic Republic Of Congo

The first half ended in a goalless draw, despite complete control by the Senegalese team. Then the Democratic Republic of the Congo took control of the course of play at the beginning of the second half and deserved to take the lead with a goal scored by Cedric Bakambu in the 61st minute, but Sadio Mane, the Saudi Al-Nasr striker and the historic leader of the “Lions of Teranga,” scored the equalizer for his country in the 68th minute.

With this draw, Senegal topped the Group D standings with four points, superior on goal difference to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In a second match for the same group, Benin beat Botswana 1-0, occupying third place with three points, while Botswana remained in fourth place with no points.

It is noteworthy that the tournament regulations stipulate that the winner and runner-up of each of the six groups qualify for the round of 16 in the tournament, in addition to the best third-placed teams.
